Do you need a battery pack or whatever for active guitar pick ups or will they still work without?
Like others said they do need batteries and generally you mount a 9 volt in the control cavity of the guitar.
They use 9 volts and AA batteries. They will not work without batteries. Leaving you guitar plugged in while the amp is on will kill the battery.
I have the eighty one-eighty five installed in a ESP they usually work good for metallic. They're hotter sounding than any others I obtained. They've a few exceptional one just like the zack wylde ones are special than the kerry king ones. And so forth. Pinch harmonics come out easier with high acquire settings to your amp. As good as turning the choose sideways.
You will need 9,12 or 18 volts for a preamp to drive the active pick up signal. 9 and 18 volts are the most common. A few active pickups can work a little with a dead battery, but you need a battery.
Most active pickups need batteries. I'm not sure what you mean by a battery pack though; as far as I know, actives use conventional alkaline batteries. According to Wikipedia, some active pickups use phantom power, but I haven't seen any that do. And no; without batteries, active pickups don't work.
