When I said i could get the job done in a week, i was assuming i would have 2 more bulldozers. with the bulldozers i have, i would have the job done in 8 days. but now all my bulldozers are out of operation except 1. now I'll probably be weeks late. with all the information obtained is it possible to find out how many weeks late the engineer would be. find the result or alternatively state conclusions that would lead to the answer.
It seems appropriate to assume that the number of days to do the job is inversely proportional to the number of bulldozers available. So if n were the number you had, you would say that C/n = 8, where C is a constant. You also know that C/(n+2) = 7. Thus, 8n = C = 7(n+2), or n = 14. Now you can find C, and the rest is easy.
