Question:

Alternative ways to keep room cool?

So i live in vegas and it gets immensely hot during the summer and its really not now. My room has a huge window that faces the south so i get sunlight in my room from sunrise to sun set and its really hot. We have air conditioning, but it doesn't keep it near close to cool. You can feel the drastic change in temperature when you walk into my room and its about 10 degrees hotter in my room than the rest of my house. The window takes up most of the wall and the windows are double pane. I have them tinted and i have curtains over it, but it still seems like an oven in my room. What are some ways i can fight the heat? Fans and such never help, so thats not really an option.

Answer:

When something moves at high speeds with a large mass (for example a car) something uneven will effect it differently than if it were to move at a much slower speed. For example, if you were to ride you bike at 4 miles per hour, and rode over a pothole, you would feel the pothole. If you were moving at a faster speed, the pothole would be felt considerably less. This acts in the same way. It all has to do with the mass and speed. Hope this helps!
Mine are electrical too so they don't have a place for batteries. I would guess it's one of two things. One there's a short in the wiring somewhere or two there's smoke somewhere. My MIL used to flash fry everything. Though it was safely away from the stove it was so sensitive it would do these occassional beeps the whole time she was cooking. Plus it did it in the summer when there was a fan on because of something coming in from the outside. Since hers was battery operated we'd always turn them off except when gone or sleeping. Try covering both with a plastic cap. If it continues to beep it's in the wiring. Not very likely both units would be faulty at the same time. If there's a mouse or other critter in the attic he could've chewed the cord the detectors are faintly picking up the smell. Most of the time you can call the administrative number for the fire dept. they'll come out check it for free or at minimum tell you what could be causing it what to do.
