Question:

Aluminium and iron?

Even though aluminium is more common than iron, give three reasons why it is more expensive?

Answer:

1) It's more expensive to purify from ore. There are more varieties and more/different plants have to be built to accomodate the different type of materials. 2) It has higher market appeal in commercial applications than Fe. 3) It is traded on the open market.
is more difficult to obtain it it`s lighter it serves to more purposes than the iron.
It takes more energy (and therefore more cost) to extract Al from ore than it does to extract Fe from ore.
Cost of the ore, cost of the electricity and the fact that its Ar is less than Fe - so a large amount of electricity will still only produce a small quantity of metal.
I can not list three, but I will give you the basic reason. Aluminum is not found in nature as pure aluminum. It is primarily found in bauxite. The concentration of bauxite is sometimes low in the specific ore mined. The higher the concentration the more aluminum that can be refined from it. So while aluminum is common, it is not commonly found in abundance. Another reason why aluminum is more expensive is the amount of electricty that is needed to purify aluminum from its ores. It is actually much cheaper to get aluminum from recycling it than to mine it from the ground.
