What are each CPU's marketed for? Business/gaming/server? Which one would be chosen for different reasons. For custom built Desktops.
X6 for video editing and heavy data processing, apu for gaming, and x8 for servers and also for heavy data processing.
Both of these are marketed towards Multitasker's and gamers though in benchmarks, intel Cpu's (i5, i7) are above AMD X6 core If I was to choose one of these I would go with X6 for money reasons and you really don't need more than X6 (except maybe for rendering, but that would require a good Gpu that's in crossfirex/sli)
X6 - video editing and 3D design/rendering workstations. APU - budget everyday rigs and light gaming (no need to buy a discrete graphics card) X8 - same tasks as X6, in addition to heavy duty data processing servers The Phenom II X6 CPU's have weaker gaming performance than faster-clocked Phenom II X4 processors. The Phenom II X4 970 outperforms the more expensive X6 1100T in games. And of course the 975/980 are even better. However, only Bulldozer would be competitive against Intel when it comes to gaming. Even Intel's Core i3 2100 matches or beats the performance of the Phenom II X4 970 in most game titles.
