I own an antique empire sofa and am curious if it belongs to a particular make.I think possibly it may be an art nouveau sofa. It has swans carved into the front of the arms, as well as some very intricate detailing at the base of the sofa and on the feet.Would anyone be able to provide me with some links or some information that may be able to help me figure this out on my own?
I'd suggest you go to a local library and look in the antique section for patterns and detailings specific to the noveau period. To know what it is made out of would also be helpful, to see if the materials corresponded to the time period. Google for notable furniature makers of the period and see if the design of your sofa fits the typical design of a certain craftsperson. The best thing to do would be to ask a antiques dealer, historian or someone with that kind of knowledge. It doesn't have to be expensive, there is likely to be someone in your community with an active interest in that soft of thing.
