Any jewelry experts out there? How do you clean sterling silver jewelry? Can you use ammonia? Help, please!?

Answer:

Don't use ammonia - that could discolor the silver quite badlyA glasses cleaning cloth is the best material, but any soft, non-linting cloth will doIf the item has a gemstone attached, you may need to have it professionally cleaned, as gemstones are generally very susceptible to damage when cleaningIf it's an item which is all-silver, then line a bowl with aluminum foil, put the jewelry in, cover it in a VERY shallow layer of baking soda, and then pour HOT water over itWait until it stops bubbling, and then remove it, rinse it, and dry it with said lint-free clothOnce again; DO NOT DO THIS IF THERE ARE GEMSTONES ON IT - and that also goes for pearlsAs Elle said, you can buff it with the baking soda/ water mix, but this won't remove dirt and grime in the nooks and crannies, because the paste isn't still very chemically activeIf you've got the time, it's better to actually have the silver in the bowl when you mix the two.
