Any suggestions for a fuel additive for gasoline or diesel to improve the mileage of a vehicle?

Answer:

your question will have easily hundreds of opinions. Here's the facts from me there is not magic additive that will improve fuel mileage consistantly. By using a fuel injector addtive to clean the injectors and intakes, you will allow the engine to continue to deliver the performance and mileage it's designed for. What helps a lot is a top end decarbonization of the engine. You can use Seafoam Motor treatment for that. To see it in action, goto U-Tube and do a search for Seafoam. It looks like a 30 minute burnout, but it will break up the carbon buildup in the engine that never will get cleaned or go away on its own. it spits it out the tailpipe, and you engine will be able to breathe easier and thus get a bit more power and maybe 1-2% better mileage. I got 64 extra miles a tank for my commute by doing this. It's now a standard practice to do this every 6 months. Each oil change a bottle of Seafoam goes into the gas tank as well. And I also use a bottle in my engine oil to help loosen the crud in there, and yes I do use synthetic oil. Seafoam sounds like a snake oil, but I recommend it every single day and also use it myself. I'm not a salesperson for it, but it works and I can honestly vouch for it. best way to improve mileage though is to not drive as fast, keep excess weight out of the vehicle and keep a steady speed. fuel additives just let things go back to status quo.
Lucas additive improves the mileage in my F350 diesel by almost 2mpg. If I dont have Lucas, I will add a few gallons of used (filtered) motor oil to an almost full tank of diesel. It works great and is free. I have mixed up to 5 gallons of oil to 20 gallons of diesel but have been told that you can mix up to 50/50.
Nope. Whatever you come up with to add to the fuel to increase mileagewill be negated in the fact that you're not just buying fuel, but paying for the additive also. Just simple logic.
