I always wonder because not as many people had problems with weight, say like 30 years ago. I understand in times past people didn't have things so easy as we do today, but they weren't all exercise freaks either. Something has to be causing this. And if this is a cause, what can we do to avoid this?
Although there are a lot of people that say additives are to blame I really don't think they are the main cause. Granted things like high fructose corn syrup and red dye number whatever are not the healthiest things we can put in our bodies, what you also have to look at is the amount of foods, that contain things like these, we consume versus 30 years ago. It really is mainly a combination of a lack of self control when it comes to a modern Americans diet and also a lack of physical activity. How do you think someone would look if they sat in an air conditioned office all day and ate snack food?
Fast Foods, frozen prepared foods, processed foods etc. all add to the weight and health problems. Just don't buy them and consume them on a regular basis.Thirty years ago much of it was available but we didn't buy it as a regular staple. It was a treat so to speak. People should eat more home grown food and make dinner from scratch. i don't see it changing too much in the near future. it is easier to drive up to McDonald's then to stop and get out of the car, find your way thru the supermarket, wait in line etc etc. Sounds like you know good from bad. Just don't go with the flow.
Well, I just read yesterday that if food companies eliminate the use of trans fats (in ingredients it is called partially hydrogenated oils or hydrogenated oils), heart attacks would be reduced in America by over 200,000 cases! So, if Americans only ate organic foods, then of course I believe that America would not be one of the fattest countries. Even organic chocolate isn't as bad as artificially made chocolate - with preservatives, weird sugar additives like dextrose, sucrose, etc. Organic chocolate is basically REAL sugar, REAL milk and the cocoa. Anyways, yes, by Americans using Splenda, Sweet n Low, and other artificial sweeteners, our metabolisms are messed up because our body anticipates the sugar but we NEVER GET IT. Although of course sugar isn't very healthy, artificial sweetener is even worse. If Americans just limited their sugar intake instead of inhaling a ton of artificial sweetener, everything would be better. Also, these horrible junkie foods like candy bars and potatoe chips and mcdonalds-type foods aren't helping one bit! Who knows what are in these foods! Eating these disgustingly unhealthy and fat-filled foods make you feel lousy and suck out your energy. When you eat healthy, organic, etc., you feel energized because your body is getting what it needs and not a truckload of chemicals. So many Americans just don't realize how bad some foods are because of how smart companies have gotten with hiding the bad ingredients. Even though a box of cereal says whole grain!, that doesn't mean the food company hasn't added cups of refined sugar and artificial coloring/flavoring!
