Question:

are lemons and limes the same?

sure, i can google it but its doesn't say whether limes and lemons are the same fruit. I thought limes where just unripe versions of lemons. but my friend told me they are a different breed.

Answer:

It originated in the Florida Keys. It is also my FAVORITE dessert. YUM!
seeing as how key limes only come from the Florida keys, I would have to say no they are not Italian. There may be a lime pie in Italy, but I doubt that key Lime pie originated there.
Origin is south Florida. Started when the sweetened condensed milk was brought to the area. It needed no refrigeration so it could be stored for use. Key limes are from the Florida Keys. Simple ingredients. Pie crust, traditionally a graham cracker crust Key lime juice Sweetened condensed milk egg yolks. The juice almost bakes the pie before it is even put in the oven for a very brief baking time. Topped with, usually the whipped whites then browned like a traditional meringue or sometimes a whipped cream. (I prefer the whipped cream.)
