We are building a house and were thinking about installing a tiled shower, but I heard from a friend that they get dirty quickly and are very time consuming.
I install showers and tile showers if installed correctly , the grout done right and sealed properly is a great way to go . as long as you use a good sealer on the grout it will not discolor on you . the downside of tile is that you need to be very careful on what you use to clean it with . harsh cleaners will eat up your grout fast . Another way to go which is almost maintenance free is onyx . it looks like cultured marble and it looks fantastic . they carry onyx at home depot , you need to at least check it out before you do anything , it looks awsome and will last forever
More time consuming than what? I wouldn't ever consider having a shower that wasn't tiled.
With all the tile selections today, I would certainly opt for a tile shower, regardless of how long it would take to install. As far as cleaning, you will have to clean any shower surface just as frequently as the next. Just select a tile that does not show water spots. Use the right grout or seal it properly and you should be good to go.
They only get dirty if you don't clean them.Tiled showers are far superior to any other type of waterproofing on the market. They look better, they last longer and they get as dirty as everything else if you let them. Buy a shower spray cleaner from the supermarket and give it a blast every time you use the shower. Then once a week give it a good clean with a soap scum cleaner and it will stay beautiful for ever.
