Question:

Assume that the lawsuit over the copier fire may be proceeding to trial.?

What might you do with regard to documents that detail the repair history of the equipment? How might you proceed with regard to a person injured in the fire? What about the medical team that treated the person? What other evidence or testimony might be relevant, and what methods might you employ to obtain that information in advance of the trial?

Answer:

Take off the cover and look to see that there is not a battery in it, if there is replace it. If not write down the make and manufacture of the unit and look it up on the internet and pose the question to the manufacture of the smoke alarm.
Call a local glass shop that makes windows for homes and describe your problem. Yes it should be replaceable.
Is it dusty? That will set it off too.
Are you sure It doesn't have batteries? Most Hard wired units have a battery back-up. When the battery gets low they will chirp. To let you know to check them. I just put them in my home and after they were turned on they chirped every 10 minutes or so until I installed the batteries. Good luck!
