Keep in mind that survival is all about knowledge and preparation, you can have all the gear in the world you could need but if you don't know what your doing you won't make it. Add to that list a firearm and ammo suitable for taking game. And add fishing tackle. Add also a couple of info books on how to survive and edible plant identification.

You can't smell it, it is odorless. That is why it is so dangerous.
Carbon Monoxide is odorless, but you can get detectors that plug into the electrical wall outlet to warn you if the level gets too high for human safety. These are only necessary if you have oil and/or gas heat and appliances (burning fuel). Electric heat and appliances don't generate carbon monoxide.
