I am building something from some platters from some pc hard-drives and was wondering how hot they need to be in order to manipulate - shape them ?
If they are typical (aluminum alloy) platters, then you're looking at 300-400 °C Don't go over 450 °C or you risk melting it (though depending on the exact alloy used, it may not melt until 600+ °C ) Of course if you don't need too specific shapes, you can just bend them with your bare hands in room temperatureIf they are IBM-made HDDs, then the platters are made of glassFor that you may need 600-950 °C

Yes, that sort of batting will workIt is a light and airy type of batting that will be perfect for what you want it to do However, it is my own opinion that it's not a durable batting When you wash the blanket after its made, do not dry it in a hot dryer as poly batting tends to melt and/or shrink at timesLay it flat to dry for best results Hope this helps and good luck with your project.
