When I put my door down, it pauses for about 1 sec then goes back up. It has an electric eye that stops it form closing if anything is in the way, but that is clear. Does anyone have a clue what is wrong with it? Oh, and this just started this past week when we got a lot of snow (the midwest blizzard).
a common problem when it gets very cold. check for snow or ice where the door meets the floor. more likely though, your concrete has heaved (risen) from the cold. adjust your down travel limit to make the door travel less downward. it's hitting the floor before it's expected travel is complete and thinks it has hit an obstruction. if you aren't sure how to adjust the travel. do a search for the manufacturers website, many of them have basic instructions posted.
Make certain that there is no ice or snow where the door meets the pavement. Also the downforce may need to be adjusted a bit if the ground heaved from the cold temps.
Probably due to expansion or in this case contraction of the frame of your garage or heaving of the foundation. If you adjust(reduce) the travel in the opener a little at a time you will probably fix the problem. I usually have to make a small adjustment on one of mine every winter. Not as likely, but check to make sure none of the rollers are binding on the track. This will also cause resistant prompting the door to reopen.
Check and make sure your garage door does not have any snow or ice where the bottom of the door meets the ground. It has a sensor that makes sure there is not an obstruction (like a child). If it cannot go all the way down, it will reverse and open up again.
First, make sure your door works OK by hand(no broken springs or jamming up anywhere). The next thing I look for is how far the door goes up and down with the opener. Does it seem to be opening where it normally stops, or is it lower? If so, the gear assembly inside the unit may be slipping due to wear. Also, if it seem to be trying to push the door down too far (opener rail bows up a lot), that could indicate slipping. Sometimes this is caused by the door freezing to the ground. The opener tries to lift it and it skips a few teeth in the drive gear before it breaks the door from the ground. Pull the cover off the machine and see if there's a white powdery substance all over. If there is, that's from the gear. Temporarily, you can reset the travel settings, but the gear will need to be replaced soon.
