lm386 is a great ampyou need to connect all the ground points together to the battery - terminal, and the Vs (pin 6) to the 9V battery +You dont need the zobel network (r c from pin 5 to ground) but you do need a resistor to ground on pin 3 (ie the potentiometer) AND a capacitor to fed your signal in to it(see link)
