Question:

battery light and brake light are ON?

I wash nissan maxima 2002 engine and battery light and brake light are ON,the battery is dead, is the alternator??thanks

Answer:

Toyota has the same thing. Usually this means the alternator is bad. I feel that this is alternator related. Have your alternator and battery checked at your local auto parts store.
When the battery light is on, the battery should be charged or replaced, if it cannot be charged. If it happens AGAIN, it could be the alternator. The battery could be faulty. But, the break light being on as well, could be a faulty cable running to the battery. Or, it could be the battery and the hand break which is suppose to be adjusted.
Battery light and Brake light are usually independent sensors/fault indicators. Battery may need replacement, or possibly be dead due to fault in the charging system (alternator). Most auto parts store can check both for free with proper testing equipment. Since electric power is dead or very low, the PCM could be throwing other false errors. Get the battery issue resolved first and other errors might go away. If not then continue with diagnosis. Brake light, could be a burnt out brake light bulb, dirty ABS sensors, or pads/shoes worn out and needs replacement, or low brake fluid level.
