yeah what the nurse told you sounds right I also had to take a iron supplement ans I was take like 8 fiber pills because I wasn't able to go to the bathroom which is a symptom of pregnancyI was also taking folic acid and my prenatels so you should be fine keep up the good work and don't worry the nurses would never never tell you false info because that would be on their conscienceMy son was fine he was extra healthy thanks to the supplements.
The first answer is good but conditions can also affect iron absorption such as blood loss or haemorrhage and periods means there is iron lost in blood so there will be less to absorb, food intake ie iron rich foods like meat, spinach etc, and conditions affecting digestion or absorption such as IBS, which i suffer from, means my colon can contract and not absorb nutrients and minerals well when i am suffering from it and i was anaemic 6 months ago because i wasnt absorbing my iron well.
