I‘m new to sewing, so I don‘t know much of the technical aspects, and I don‘t have a sewing machine so I can only sew by hand at this point. I can only do a basic straight stitch. Now, I want to attempt to make a shoulder bag (yes, I know it‘s going to take long). I have the pattern and instructions, but I was wondering if a basic straight stitch (perhaps doubled?) would be strong enough for a bag, or would I need to learn a different stitch (which one?). Any tips please?
Invest in a heavy weight thread and a straight stitch should be ok. I would try and approximate a zig zag stitch when attaching the straps though.
