Question:

BLUEBERRY, APPLE or LIME CUSTARD PIE?

See I like making pies. My best 3 are blueberry, apple and lime custard. My spring break is about to start and my girlfriend wants to introduce me to her folks, that just so happen to like sweets! I was ******* happy as hell. I can probably sink this! the only problem, is that I don't know which one to make that'll get it right. I don't want to bring 3 pies at once, they'd figure out my kissing *** attempt right away! But if I can make a pie that'll knock their ****, and only make one, that'll be sweet! (pardon the unintentional pun)I've already asked which ones my girlfriend thought they would like, but she keeps saying all 3. Thats not good enough! gt;_lt; Someone please be specific.

Answer:

I think the chance of having salmonella in eggs is so very small that you shouldn't worry about it. Obviously throw out any eggs that are already cracked or look dodgy.
No. A weak acid such as lime juice will not kill salmonella. Your stomach acid is stronger than lime juice, and the bacterium can easily survive in your stomach. Cooking the egg is the best option. If you cannot cook the egg (as in some recipes), you can buy pasteurized eggs or egg whites that are safe to use raw. According to Wikipedia, the incidence of salmonella in raw eggs is about 1 in 30000 (in the US), which is pretty small, but still a fair chance of getting the bacterium. Of course, I'm not sure what the contamination rate is for other foodstuffs...most of the recent scares in the US have been with vegetables, for example.
