Question:

Braces bracket?

A few days ago I was brushing my teeth and one of my brackets broke off. I'm really scared because I don't want my parents to have to pay for a new one. They already pay for so much. I have a orthodontist appointment today, Can they put the old one back on? It's still on the wire, its just lose and it flips around. I don't think I ate anything forbidden. Do you have any advise?

Answer:

I don't see any reason why they should charge for another bracket. I know someone who pulled off 4 just to see if they could (stupid, I know). They may need to replace the bracket because it will have been glued on, so they probably need to put a new one on. My orthodontist broke one of my brackets and it took no more than a couple of minutes to replace it. I wouldn't worry about it, just explain as you go in that it came off whilst brushing.
the bracket is probably free if it is your first one so don't worry. my orthodontist charged after seven broke off.
I think the orthodontist will likely put another one on for free. I have had a couple of the brackets pop off (one when I was sleeping and bit down hard, and the other when I was being bad and eating hard chips). My orthodontist does it for free. Good luck.
I think your orthodontist will put them back on for free :) My front one has popped off and I'm getting it reglued next week, lol. Good luck! :)
It's pretty rare for an orthodontist to charge for broken brackets unless it becomes a habitual problem. They can recondition the bracket and rebond in most cases. If not, they can place a new bracket. It depends on the condition of the bracket. It's not always an instance of eating something forbidden to knock one off. It can also be do to how you occlude (bite touches). It's definitely not the end of the world so don't fret. It will all be ok. It is good that you are concerned for your part in your treatment and trying to save absorbent costs for your parents. It shows a lot of maturity and responsibility. Good for you! :o) I hope this helps! Good luck to you! :o)
