I don't know whether yours is right because I don't know the original quote. But if you change words in a quote, those words (the new ones) will go into square brackets. E.g., I'd rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I am not. ~Kurt Cobain~ Just say you want to quote that, but refer to someone in the 3rd person. If it was she, it would be: [She'd] rather be hated for who [she is] than loved for who [she is] not.
