Question:

broil vs bake for hamburgers?

I've been told I can cook hamburger patties in my ovenNow, quick questionI have a 'bake' function on which I can adjust the temp (350-450 or so)Then, I have a broil function that just has 'high' and 'low'.Should I leave the broil on high? I don't know how hot it is thoughCan I use the bake function? Thanks!

Answer:

Broil is by radiant heat just like on an outdoor grill except the heat is from above not below and you don't get the smoke But it's hard to get a broiler with enough heat to do it right Look into pan roasting instead If you broil, don't put them on foil, put them on the broiling rack so the grease can drip off them just as they would in a barbecue, you can line the tray underneath with foil Flames are common and nerve racking when broiling meats, you should see them jump out of a toaster oven, no need to pull them out because of a flame, it's just the same as when drippings cause a flame on a BBQ No, your broiler isn't too strong but you wimped out You can't broil on low, it's not broiling if you do, only one setting is broil and that's full on You have to have guts to broil a steak or burgerGround your own beef from a cut, that way you can make the hamburger medium rare without fear of food poisoning The ground beef you buy at the store can be from a hundred different cows and are from who knows what parts of the cow There's almost certainly salmonella in the store bought ground beef Once you've had medium rare burgers, you'll wander where it's been all your life.
