Just replaced my outdoor AC unit's fan motor. The new one is working but the AC is not cooling. Any ideas? Compressor maybe? Thanks!
Clamp an ammeter on one of comp. motor leads....If the meter shows no current....The comp. isn't running......You need the assistance of a good hvac tech.
You should be able to hear the comressor run. It makes a distinctive sound. You should also hear a hissing noise from the evaporator coil (Inside the house on the furnace blower) That noise is the system pressuring up. the lines should also be different temps. The larger line should be cool and the small line warm. If thats not the case call a repair man. A new condenser will cost around 900$ to 1200$ installed depending on the size efficiency and whether your evaporator is compatable.
The fan is used to propel the air through the system nothing more. The compressor circulates coolant through a radiator system that the air is propelled through to cool the house. So with this said it sounds as if your coolant system is not doing its job and the compressor along with the coolant being charged {basically its a gas and looses its activity if not up to pressure} are the two main culprates in your scenario. Have it serviced and if it is found to be the coolant your off easy with a service call and recharge. If it is more they will give you an estimate to replace or fix the compressor that you can compare with a couple others prior to decision making. Hope this helps.
