It sounds like you're starting to watch from the beginningI hope you don't mind spoilers. Captain Picard and Beverly Crusher are very close friends. We learn that he introduced her to her husband, who was his close friend, and he was in love with her at the time but didn't tell her. they never have a real romance during the show, though there are a few moments that we think they might, but we learn that in at least one possible future, they get married. Wesley does not die. He evolves into a being that can control some of time and space; kind of like Q, but with less power and more conscience. Almost everyone gets held hostage at some point. Captian Picard is held and tortured by Cardassians. Geordi is taken by a group of Pakleds that needs an engineer. Riker, Troi, and O'Brien's bodies are taken over by beings that threaten to kill them if the rest of the crew does not comply with their demands. The entire crew is taken hostage by Ferengi who want Riker to teach them how to run the ship so they can steal it. There are dozens of other examples; they happen in every season to almost everyone. Ultimatums? Tons. Picard is told if he walks away from Cardassian imprisonment, they will torture Crusher in his place. Worf's son is threatened by holodeck characters if Worf doesn't release a prisoner in A Fistful of Datas. There are a lot more. Troi does get held hostage quite a bit, though less as the show goes on. She learns to be more assertive and starts wearing uniforms, which helps. Romances; Troi and Worf in season seven, Troi and Riker (this is on and off all seven seasons and finally resolved in the movies). Everyone has a romance, though usually with characters that aren't around for very long.
