Question:

building a pond, instead of pond liner using cement, will this work?

i am currently building a pond, but instead of using pond liner, we are using cement, with this still keep it sealed from leakage? (the cement will have no joints, all one peice)

Answer:

The concrete will invariably crack at some point. It might be two years down the road; it might be ten. But it will crack and it will leak.
Concrete is unforgiving and will crack. And it is not repairable. I recommend using a flexible liner no matter where you live. It's cheaper and will last for 20 years at least. Sealing the concrete adds another huge cost to the building of the pond. Stick with a butyl liner.
Cement/Concrete is absorbent will absorb water not repel. You will need to coat wall with some form of water repellent paint etc.
