I'm not vegetarian because I want to avoid this-or-that in my food. I'm vegetarian because I oppose the commodification (and slaughter) of sentient beings for human whims.
Depends on where you live. The stuff that contains meat additives, drugs, filth or heavy metals has to be produced SOMEWHERE. If that is where you live, buying that stuff is buying locally.
