I own a Camaro 1995 V6 3.4L automatic, it was diagnosed that the water pump was leaking and I was going to take it in on Saturday 3/1/08. But this morning I drove it and it seem that the car is losing power the RPM goes all up to 4-5 thousand to make a speed change. The car seems to stall like if it gets stuck the RPM goes up and eventually the next speed kicks in. I will be taking the car in tomorrow 2/27/08 to see whats wrong but I was hoping maybe someone knows whats wrong so that I can have an idea before someone tries to take advantage of me. I do know that the car started leaking water/coolant more than before after that little drive in the morning. The car is very well kept oil change is always on time .I always make sure that the water and the oil is level. transmission fluids are clean. I do know that the EGR Valve needs to be replaced. (hope this info helps)thank you
YES IT CAN YOU CAN DAMAGE YOUR HEAD BY OVER HEATING THEN YOU HAVE MORE ISSUES VAPOR LOCKING ?? THAT IS ONLY WITH FUEL NOT WATER PUMP LEAKING
if you dont have coolant in your car then it wont run right not to mention damage the engine
You may have got it hot and blown a head gasket. That would take away the power as it got hotter.
Fill it back up with water. you can cause serious damage by driving this car. It will vapor lock.
If your car is overheating due to water pump leakage, sure it can lose power! Also, if the pump is binding up, the bearings can slow the motor some, but the belt might be squalling badly by then. You may have other problems not related to the pump, like vacuum, or low trans fluild. Egr valve bad, hmm. Don't think it could make you lose that much power. Although if it's leaking BADLY, then it might because that's your intake charge, and if the exhaust gases are overwhelming it, then yeah you might be losing power big time, but I've never seen one do that, just my experience or lack of with that problem.
