Question:

Can alcohol be produced naturally with no tampering by mankind?

I am looking for viable proof that alcohol can be produced naturally in the environment. It doesn't have to be tasty, just the fact that you can obtain it, anywhere in the world with no tampering from man (no adding yeast, or chemicals).I've been searching for proof of this to win a bet, please help.

Answer:

fruit ferments naturally all the time
Yes, rotten fruit can become alcohol. There is a vid on youtube of animals eating fallen fruit and then reeling around in a drunken manner.
ethyl alcohol, the part of alcohol that makes you drunk, is produced as a waste product of certain anaerobic organisms. (like yeast). If a whole bunch of them met up theyd produce ethyl alcohol, but it probably wouldn't be safe for human consumption. It would get you drunk still though, just mayb cause death before you feel the effects.
Farmers put hay in silos and when it comes out it is soaked with alcohol. Put some fruit in a warm place and pretty soon you have booze. Berries are especially good for this. Make some sourdough starter with flour and water. You don't have to add yeast. It takes a week or so, and you have alcohol.
