Several years agao, province A produced 2/3 and province 1/6 of all the iron ore produced in the country. If all the other provinces combined produced 18 million tons in a year, how many million tons did province A produced that year?--The answer is actually 72. But I don‘t know how they derived at this answer.
Province A Produced 2/3 which is equal to 4/6 so, if the other Province produced 1/6 of the iron ore, then the remaining province produced 1/6, because the first 2 produced 5/6. Therefore 18million 1/6 and since Province A produced 4/6 they produced 72 million tons. I think this sounds confusing, but I'm not sure how to make it more clear.
