Question:

Can anyone interpret this wiring diagram?

I have a water valve that I need to connect but I don't know how to read this diagram. I'm unsure how to connect the wires to the cold and hot valve. I have four wires that need to be connected. A pair of white caps with one blue wire and one orange; and a pair of black caps with one blue wire and one yellow wire. Sorry if this sounds confusing but I have no idea how to explain it well. Thanks!

Answer:

Oddly the diagram shows three valves, a hot and two cold valves. If you were needing to wire Cold Valve 1 and Cold Valve 2, the wire colors you describe are shown as one or two letters in front of the connector IDs (where BL presumably means blue, and O and Y, orange and yellow).
blue and yellow for cold valve one, blue and orange for cold valve 2, the hot valve would be blue and brown.
The schematic drawings for a large electrical installation will 'normally' have a 'key to symbols' sheet. However some symbols you will have to work out for yourself. (comes with experience). Schematics for control systems may be a different kettle of fish. After 45 years as a maintenance electrician at sea and ashore I came to the conclusion that not only do different countries have different standards, but so do the individual electrical design engineers. Normally control drgs of many pages will have some reference to page No. and grid No's. Each page will be divided into grids, say 1 to 10 across top and A to H vertical. A relay with many contacts, but each contact on different pages, will have a symbol showing all contacts below the coil symbol. Each contact will show :- contact No's, page No and grid ref. IE. 13-14 (4) 2D. This is contacts 13-14 on page 4 at ref 2 across and D vertical. Sorry I can't help you any more with this but I'd be here for the next week or more going through all the different standards.
In the diagram, there are two cold valves: valve 1 has a yellow wire to it; valve 2 has a blue and a yellow wires to it...............you may have to contact the washer manufacturer or the company that makes the valve for better installation instructions ( it's possible that all of the wires are not used in both valves )
Cold Valve one at the lower left of the schematic should have a yellow wire which connects directly to the controller at the P5 .1 terminal. The blue wire will connect with a wire nut to a blue wire which is a common ground for all three valves. Cold valve 2 has an orange wire which connects to the controller at the P5 .4 terminal in the blue wire should connect to the same blue wire but in a different place again with a wire nut. If that isn't clear enough post a picture of the and maybe I can explain it better.
