Question:

Can anyone tell me why cats chew on wires?

I have 4 cats and all of them at one time or another have chewed through an electrical wire. One day, one cat chewed on my phone wire, I scooted him away, and the other came, chewed on the same wire, I scooted him away, and I turned around and my kitten was chewing on the wire! I have many broken appliances, fan, fax, light, that are now chewed through. why do they do it and how do I get them to stop?

Answer:

they look like string
boredom and common nature
Mine likes my fishing poles and will floss his teeth with the wires. I got him dental toys and more things to chew on and he stopped with the wires. Brush their teeth or get them dental friendly toys and it should stop.
well, cats have a tendency to chew on various things such as shoe laces, all different types of strings, including electrical wires. But the reason they chew on wires is because they think the wire is something that will play with him/her. If you would like to get the cat to stop then you should spray perfume, or cologne on the wire, and the next time it bites the wire it will hate the taste,(and its safe) and the cat will never bita a wire again. i had the same problem:) good luck!
