Can bentonite be used as a bearing layer?

Can bentonite be used as a bearing layer?

Answer:

In civil engineering structural design, in the foundation design, the soil layer which directly bears the foundation load is called the bearing stratum. Concrete made of bentonite and cement and sand can be used as bearing layer.
Bentonite expands and softens with water, and at the same time it forms waterproof film or waterproof layer. It can be used as outer waterproof layer. As a bearing layer, it may not be good.
