If it was a fairy thick pastry it was probably short crust pasty It it was light and flaky, then it would have been filo pastry.

Usually you just grab the burner and gently pullThey unplug easilyI put foil in mine all the time because we have a rental and it keeps the drip pans cleanIt DOES NOT cause fires unless you do not replace the foil when heavily soiled! I have been doing this for years, as has my mom, and grandma, and they never had a problem.
