My old smoke detector is wired into the wall with a black wire and a white wire (and it has a red wire that's not attached). Can I buy any smoke detector and wire it up the same way?

a piercing gun is NEVER better than a needle. You get a clean piercing with a needle and a gun runs the risk of tearing. You should always try to avoid guns. I havent heard of anyone using them outside of to pierce ears but still. Needles are always safer and cleaner. In my experience, the nose hurts more than the monroe. Its not that bad though. A twinge of pain for a split-second, then its over. The monroe is less intense pain wise but can be more of a b**** to heal. It tends to be a little more sore during the healing process, but thats because its in your mouth against your teeth/gums and it moves around more.
