I have two old floor speakers (from around 1980) the tweeter and mid range speakers work fine but both woofers are blown. could I replace the the woofers in the speakers with car sub-woofers?
the nice and cozy button isn't something, and that i mean no longer something, beats a cord. merely run some wires in the cord or have a cabling guy do it for you. You get much less with instant, hense the be conscious much less!
You could but it would probably sound pretty bad. The speaker enclosures and crossovers are designed for a specific driver which has a particular response curve. Putting something else in there would likely result in poor spectral linearity.
No, you can not replace the woofer on the speaker system with a car subwoofer. They are rated ar 4 ohms and home audio at 8 ohms. Car audio speaker are design for very small room (short throw) and home audio for large room (long throw). You will not hear the same sound after you replace the speaker. Home audio speakers have have many improvements from the 80's, there are allot of speakers in the market now. Consider replacing your old speaker with a new one. Stay with name brands like JBL, Infinity, Polk audio, Definitive Technology, Paradigm, and Boston to name a few. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on speakers. Hope that this will help you out.
