I use Gas Framing Nailers for my business. They use a little 6 fuel cell to operate. I have been using them for the last ten years. When I purchase these, they are always shipped to me via UPS, FedEx or USPS. The boxes are clearly marked that they are fuel cells with a hazardous warning. I tried to return some fuel cells from one of my suppliers and UPS USPS told me that they will not ship these items. That doesn't make sense to me, because that is how I get them -- through the mail!! I was hoping that someone from UPS, FedEx or USPS can explain. As mentioned, I have been receiving these for several years in the mail and the boxes are always clearly marked Flammable.
I'm not from UPS, FedEx, or the USPS, but my company ships many hazardous products so I think I can answer your question. For UPS and FedEx, they accept hazardous material but only from someone who is certified to ship such material. Certified means they have to be trained in the proper labeling, documentation, packaging choice, and security per the Dept of Transportation guidelines, and that certification has to be submitted to UPS or FedEx in advance for them to accept hazardous packages from you. UPS offers seminars in all that in various cities around the country, but it won't help you with an immediate problem. I don't believe the USPS accepts any hazardous material regardless of whether you are certified or not.
