i have tiles in my bathroom witch are painted(not me was like that wen i moved in) was wondering if i cud wallpaper or tile over them
Well i would highly recomend not tileing over tile. It would be harder to replace over all and im not sure if its code
you could paint over them again, which would look fine, but I wouldn't tile over them. to start, its not a smooth surface, which means that it will be very very hard to do a good job. Plus at some point, the old tiles will start to lift and fall off, which means it will ruin your new tile job. for what its worth - scraping them off is not a fun job, but its not a hard job and its something you could do yourself which would save money.
You can tile over ceramic tiles but not ideal as they can come off over time. If you get a good adhesive it will work but can be effected in time as water penetration can soften the tile adhesive, You can also use tile paint. It does work well if you do the correct prep work first. Make sure old tile are really clean. It is a fast way of doing a job and very inexpensive. I would not wallpaper in a bathroom....not a good idea in my opinion due to moisture. Not a good idea to tile over any tiled embossed wallpaper surface. Have used tile paint with good success. Its in the prep if you don't do it correctly paint will peel after a time. Instruction normally on tile paint can. Well within the range of normal DIY.
Its possible to wall paper over tiles but not recommended. If you don t get the tiles covered properly you ll see the grout joints through the paper. As far as tiling over tile, yes it can be done if certain steps are taken and certain pre cautions. Always best to take out the old, but to answer the question, yes it can be done.
