Can I use a normal everyday pencil to mark on cloth for embroidery? Does it wash out well after being on cloth

Answer:

Can you use a normal pencil for marking? Yes, you could. Is it the best idea? The best advice I can offer is to TEST IT FIRST! Get a scrap of the material you will be using it on, make a few marks (lighter is always better), and then wash it to make sure it will come out sufficiently. The type of fabric and the texture will both influence how well the marks will show up to begin with and then also how well they will come out. What to use for marking really depends on what you are marking and why. I have used a regular #2 pencil and even a ball-point pen to make small marks for lining things up and such, but if it is something that is going to be potentially visible (like a design that you are then going to embroider) and it would bother you for it to show up, it would probably be better to get a water-soluble pencil. Just be warned that even those pencils and pens that are made to come out can sometimes fail to do so. I know a woman who used a blue quilting pencil that said that it would come out when wiped with a damp cloth and it left behind a light shadowing that she can't get rid of.
honestly, you should just fix it yourself, if you have a torch, your prolly looking at 10 bucks to fix it and never worry about it again. all you have to do is cut the area that is leaking with a hacksaw or pipe cutter. get some solder and flux, make sure all the water is out of the line, apply flux, heat the line, and apply solder. its really simplemy guess is about 7 bucks for a kit of plumbing flux and solder, if you dont have a torch, prolly about 20 bucks. and then a piece of the right size copper, most likely 1/2 inch?i wouldnt knowbut thats prolly a few dollars.so for 30 bucks you can for sure fix it, but if you had the materials to do it.your looking at about 2 dollars. you'll need a coupling by the way on each end to fit into the pipe and make sure that you clean the area that you will heat up with sand paper or a scotch pad or something. thats what i would do
If you do use a regular pencil or pen to mark your cloth and have diffulculty getting it out of your work, , the new Spray N Wash with Oxy before you wash it or a Tide Pen will take out the marks.
Definitely go with the fabric pencils that are made to wash out. Pencil will sometimes wash out completely, but why take the chance that it will show through the embroidery?
Sorry you're having trouble. The garden hose and clamp idea is listed in repair manuals as an emergency fix along with the pipe repair clamp. Of course this is just a band aid. Don't try tape. Good luck.
