Question:

Can I use Bondo Fiberglass and Resin to seal a canoe?

I am building a cedar strip canoe and would like to know if these products would work properly.

Answer:

no no no do not use bondo it will fail check any one of the wood boat building web sites also see the boat kit companies like Chesapeake Light Craft wooden boat magazine, messing about in boats magazine, small boat adviser magazine there are a dozen or so companies making resin for boat building starting with West System also System Three, MAS Epoxies ect ect if you are going to go to the time and trouble to build a canoe use first rate materials they do not cost that much more than products that will let you down
if you're going to all the work to make a lovely strip canoe use proper boat building epoxy resin glass cloth. I dont know Bondo but it sounds like a generic polyester resin chopped strand mat setup. Yes it will work but the right materials will make a much better lighter longer lasting canoe. (polyester resins dont adhere well to wood long term in wet environments)
