I am thinking of fabricating a BBQ grate using copper pipe. I want to know if it is safe to cook on.
that is malleable and ductile, wherein case is easy to mold into shape. additionally copper is a extremely non-reactive metallic score low on the on the table of reaction metals, so it won't react with the water for the duration of use. And while lined with specific chemical compounds may be prevented from corroding. additionally copper may be seen extra fee-effective than different useable metals. desire this helped x
I wouldn't recommend it. Hard drawn copper pipe would scale and flake, and that'd get in food. Copper is also a relatively soft metal so a grate would not hold up long to grill heat. It's easier, cheaper, and safer to just buy a BBQ grate.
Iron has a melting point of 1535C (2795F). Copper has a melting point of 1085C (1985F). Thus, an iron grate, which is solid, can handle a great deal more heat. Cooper tubing has a lot less metal (being hollow), and melts much earlier. Not good!
