Question:

Can I use parchment paper for Bao buns AKA chinese barbecue buns.?

I'm out of wax paper and was wondering if I could substitute with parchment paperTo make a note I do not have a bamboo steamer only the regular steel oneAlthough I plan on buying the bamboo kind.

Answer:

Yes, you can use parchment paper - and the steamer doesn't matterYou can make your own steamer out of Dutch ovens, flipped over bowls and plates and waterI have used lettuce leaves in a pinch, and sometimes nothing even though the buns can stick a bitI have both kinds of steamers and have used both for buns and other steamed stuffIf you don't have the room for a bamboo steamer - don't buy oneWhile I like mine, it's harder to clean than my aluminum one because it's untreated wood, has lots of nooks and crannies in the woven lid etc.
I'd definately say the babyliss i've used them and theyre great!
