Question:

Can I wash a polyester dry-clean only comforter in the machine washer?

I bought a new comforter and just noticed it says dry clean only. Would it be ok if I put it in the machine washer at the delicate cycle and dry it in the dryer with little or no heat? Or will it mess up big-times? Has anyone ever done it? Its 100% polyester btw. Thank you for your advices!

Answer:

No, not unless you sand or grind it. Then wear a mask.
I personally would follow label instructions and dry clean it While the cover may be washable the filling may not be If your prepared to replace it if you do ruin it then wash it
Seems odd, usually polyester is washable. Air drying would be better. But yea, low or no heat in the dryer.
I have always washed dry-clean only pants, shirts, table cloths and comforter in the washer. The only negative is they fade if you use warm or hot water, so use cold. They might wrinkle but I have never seen a wrinkled comforter. I have always cleaned my comforters in my washer. Twin size fits great, Queen size fits okay. If my king size is very dirty then I will fill the bath tub up half way using three times the regular type detergent and warm water and let it set for thirty minute then pull it up and down then let it sock another 30 minutes then I will let the water out and fill up the tub with fresh water and rinse it for ten minutes then put it into the washer and dryer. If the king size isn't very dirty then I just put it into the washer.
