My mouse started doing this thing where it wont go up and down today, but it goes to the left and right just fine. idk if its my computer thats causing it to do it or something else. my computer is from 1995.

Put wide duct type tape over as much of the mirror as possible. Then you can break it and handle it without too much worry about getting cut. Wear heavy work gloves just in case.
Lightning for most of its length is traveling through air (ionized) the place where it hits the ground is likely to be something above ground level a tree, a rooftop or lightning rod. There would not be any reason for it to come through a window pane.
