Can you pleat crepe-back satin?
Yes you can pleat crepe back satin. Pleating any fabric is something for a seasoned sewer or one that has a pleating machine. Have you check the price of a seamstress pleating fabric. I would think they would charge a lot to do it. To hand make pleats all the way down a dress and iron them in is very very time consuming. This process is usually done by an industrial machine.
It's not so much the weight as the fiber. Silk pleats nicely with home methods; polyester is tougher to handle and may need professional pleating. You might try using a Rajah press cloth -- sometimes it helps. You may also want to consider underlining the fabric for better drape. Hope you've been sewing for awhile, as satins needlemark (and watermark) terribly.
