Question:

Can you Re-Wire a car radio harness to work?

I bought a stereo harness at walmart that said it was good for all Chrysler 1974-and-up. It even stated my vehicle. When I opened it, it has three plugs but the back of my factory stereo only has two. I noticed that most the wires from the two I need run into the third one. Could I cut the wires where it runs into the third and connect it directly to my new stereos wiring system? I am trying to remove the third plug because it has nothing to plug into. Would removing it help or be worthless.?This harness is reverse so i can connect a new stereo without cutting my factory harnesses off.

Answer:

Here's the deal: Chrysler harnesses changed in the 2002 model year. Rather than carrying one harness for '74-'01, and another for '02 and up, Walmart carries a harness that has fits both vehicles. Simply use the plugs that fit, and ignore the plugs that don't. If you have a pre-2002 vehicle, don't use the black wire in the adapter harness; you'll need to connect the ground separately. Also, don't use the blue/white wire in the harness; connect the solid blue wire to the blue/white wire from your new head unit.
fo a stereo setting up I sugest BUTT clips as a replace of tape the tape is superb in a pinch yet via the years it : a million)collects moisture and corodes your wiring 2)can slid off (if it gets too heat it gets gentle and slides around) in case you have the adaptor do it precise and you'd be grateful later continuously double confirm your wires one after the different against the diagram in the previous setting up the fuses and powering it up
Most okorder
It is hard to say without seeing a picture, but it may just have three because some of the Chryslers(1974-and up) may actually have three and the maker of the wiring kit would have to put out multiple kits. What you should do is hook it up without splicing anything and see if it works. If it doesn't then it is time to splice them together.
