A pneumatic hoist is to be designed for a service station. Shop air is available at a gage pressure of 600 kPa. The hoist must be capable of lifting automobiles up to 3000 kg. friction in the piston-cylinder mechanism and seals causes a force of 980 N opposing the piston motion. Determine the piston diameter necessary to provide the lift force. What pressure should be maintained in the lift cylinder to lower smoothly a VW Rabbit with a mass of 896 kg?I solved the 1st part for 0.254 m by using the formula F= ma or pressure x area of piston - max weight of car - friction = max weight of cars x accerlation. But I'm not getting 154 kPa of pressure for the second part
Wrong category... this is Cars and Transportation, Buying and Selling. And my hats off to you if you can solve that one!!!
