can you use just one power (positive) cable cut it and use the rest for your negative
Wire is wire. The only difference is the insulation color. The biggest problem in using wire with the same color insulation is that it's really easy to get them reversed. And just one fraction of a second of reversed polarity and the amp power supply (maybe other things too) is fried. If you insist on using the same color, you should slip a short piece of shrink wrap onto the end of the negative wire close to the terminal so it can be readily identified.
that's what I do most of the time, cable is cable who cares yo, besides the wiring cover are in different colors. I have used 4 different sets of wire so far, Kicker, instill bay, IMC audio, sound quest.
Power cable and ground cable is the same thing, it conducts electricity exactly the same so you an use your scrap wire for a negative but i would reccomend it all be one piece so that you avoid ground loops and loose connections.
In theory, yes you can do this provided a couple things. I know it seems a simple question, and you may be fine but for safety's sake.... Power cable is usually 10 gauge braided copper. this should cover just about any amp, but as the current draw is thru the ground, this cable is usually 8 gauge and a much shorter run. If you are running a ton of power with this amp, you may want to just splurge and get yourself a run of 8 gauge ground wire, find a good solid ground and for god sake use star washers between the spade connection and the ground to ensure a good solid connection. I have seen many installs fail because of that little detail. A 10 g cable is probably good enough but to get it up to standards use an 8 g.
