Question:

Car alarm LED Amplifiers, where to get?

I have a Clifford Matrix car alarm, works good, but I want to add 2 more flashing LED‘s in the doors. The matrix can only drive 1 LED, so I was told I need an LED Amplifier so the alarm can drive 2 more LED‘s I can‘t find one anywhere, my local car alarm shop knows of them but can‘t get them. Does anyone know where I can get one, or how to build one? thank you!

Answer:

The problem is that an LED uses little power around 3.2 - 3.8volts, so when connecting one LED you need a resistor to make up the rest of the volts. i am assuming the Alarm manufacturer has one inside the alarm for the LED. First you need to determine the Voltage coming from the positive wire to the current LED. This will be necessary to determine what resistors you will need. You can get around the resistors if you use the right amount of LEDs in series.
