So I have an ‘88 Firebird that came with some crazy ‘80‘s security system. It has a chip that you put into a slot every time you start the car, without it the starter won‘t crank. Now, I love this thing since these cars are very easy to steal, it has a normal aftermarket alarm too but its a pos. My question is, if I lose this chip I won‘t be able to start my car, and I‘m sure getting a replacement is out of the question. Anyone know if a company makes a system like this that I can get to replace the one I have already?
Replace it with a modern alarm. You can bypass those chips by twisting 2 wires together. All you need is a wire tester.
Most of those antique alarm systems had a module that controls alarm. On the module is the company name and model. if that company is still in business , it should be no problem for replacement parts or updated system. most installers put the module under dash near the drivers feet. Now with those antique alarms most installers just cut the wire to starter from keyswitch and if the alarm fails or you loose chip you can reconnect cut wire and start car
